Walid Regragui speaks out after the victory against Tanzania
National coach Walid Regragui stated on Tuesday in Oujda that the technical quality of the national team was key to securing the three points in the victory against Tanzania.
“This win shows that we are becoming more consistent, which is the most important thing, because we have built a strong team that has grown with each match,” Regragui said during the post-match press conference after the Atlas Lions won 2-0 in the 6th matchday of Group E in the 2026 African World Cup qualifiers.
“We managed to build an offensive team, and the danger can come from any line and any player,” he added, expressing his satisfaction that “the bench was decisive against Tanzania.”
“In the second half, we addressed the shortcomings observed in the first half, and we succeeded in controlling the match,” Regragui noted, stating that “against Morocco, most teams fall back and don’t leave space, but we managed to unlock the situation by adjusting the positioning of certain players.”
“We put good pressure throughout the match,” he pointed out, adding that “we have a high-level bench capable of impacting the rhythm of the game, which is gaining momentum.”
For the national coach, “we need to improve pressing in the attacking area,” emphasizing that the main focus is to solve “the issues caused by deep defensive blocks.”
Thanks to this victory, the Atlas Lions solidify their top spot in Group E with 15 points and take a big step towards securing a third consecutive World Cup qualification. Niger and Tanzania are tied in second place with 6 points.
